Pool Temperature 29.3 degrees

It is not every day that I ask the pool temperature, but I saw one of the staff checking a wall monitor, so thought to ask. She said they were “spoiling us” with a nice 29.3degrees. It had been 29 earlier.

The pool was opened in 1903. And is under threat of closure.

Until a couple of years ago the pool was heated by the chocolate factory across the road. A steam powered swimming pool!!

The water is always the right temperature, and depending on what’s cooking across the road, there are chocolate oranges to be inhaled on the journey to and from the car park.

Ladies have distributed leaflets to canvas support for the pool. The new pools being built will be 25m long and 6 lanes wide. It is the only long course pool in the area, built in imperial measures. Originally, the pool did not have a roof and before that swimmers used part of the river, then it was 100yds with viewing from both banks. I have seen a man in a wetsuit….
